Read Psalm 16:8

One of my nieces and I got into a wrestling match not too long ago. We were both pushing and shoving on each other to try and beat the other one to a chair. We would both lean into each other and push! Then, when one of us would fall backwards, because of the shift in movement, the other one would follow, leading to both of us falling down or losing balance all over the place. In the middle of our match, I changed strategies – instead of leaning into my niece, I braced myself and stood my ground. When she would push on me, I simply held my ground. The more she pushed, the more i held firm. Then, with a subtle shift, she lost her balance, went flying past me, and CRASH! down on the ground she went. I was victorious because I chose to not fight against her, but instead chose to stand in place and hold my ground.

When we follow Jesus, we are told to set Him always before us like a guidepost. And when we follow Jesus, nothing will move us away from His love and grace. No matter what tricks the world uses against us, we will be able to stand our ground and not be shaken. Christ is the solid rock on which we stand. Not run. Not dance. Not lie down. STAND. When we stand, we cannot be moved. When we cannot be moved, we will always remain followers of Christ. Now there are times we run – our Christian life is a race that needs to be finished, but we still stand firm in our beliefs. There are times we dance – we dance in rejoice of the things God has done, but we still stand in our convictions that He is the One True God. There are times we lie down – we lie down in prostrate as we humble ourselves before God’s throne, but we still stand against the attacks of our enemies.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand. All other ground is shifting sand.
